Maya was born in the Southern Gulf Islands on W̱SÁNEĆ territory and is of Mennonite-Anglo-Celtic descent. She grew up performing in various disciplines, including circus and music. She completed her undergrad at Quest Univeristy where her honours thesis was a circus performance which explored traditional mennonite cooking as a conduit for creating community and sharing history. Maya began working in community-engaged circus with Three on the Tree Productions Society in her home town, helping to teach circus and producing the annual New Year’s Festival. Since then she has worked as a circus coach, performer, and youth worker with various organizations over the years.When not working she loves to play music, sew, be on the ocean, work on her handstands, cook food with friends, and spend time with her nieces and nephews.
