Join Red Fox for a unique volunteer opportunity giving you hands-on experience through recreation and cultural activities.

About Red Fox Seed Generation

The Seed Generation program is an outdoor in-person program that takes place at Strathcona Community Gardens, Still Creek and Norquay Food Forest as well as at parks and outdoor recreation sites throughout Metro Vancouver. During the Covid-19 pandemic, some group activities are taking place virtually.

Red Fox Healthy Living Society and Environmental Youth Alliance (EYA) have teamed up to bring like-minded youth between the ages of 15-19 together for environmental stewardship volunteer work and recreation and cultural activities.

Seed Generation will give youth hands-on experiences creating wildlife habitat and Indigenous foodscape gardens in Vancouver Parks. They will volunteer as youth leaders at Red Fox Active Play, Food Security and Drum Group programs, helping local children and families be active, enjoy healthy food and connect together safely on-line. They will learn from Elders and Knowledge Keepers and engage in wellness activities together.  The youth leaders will gain a certificate of completion for 120 service hours over the 3 month period.

“I love Seed Generation because it’s brought me outside more to places I’ve never been to even though I’ve lived here nearly all my life. It’s such a positive place and I feel like I can be myself around everyone. Seed Generation has helped me understand more about our habitat, and has brought me closer to the land I grew up on. Thank you Red Fox and EYA!”- Cynthia, a youth from Burnaby.

“The Seed Generation program has had a big impact on my mental health because in the past, I didn’t really know how to cope with stress or realize the potential I have. Now I am slowly seeing my strengths, realizing my potential and finding healthy ways to cope. This program reduces stress because of all things you learn, and of course, the fun you get to have!” – Sven, a student from Windermere Secondary.
