Youth Internship Program

An employment training program giving young adults opportunities to gain skills, experience and confidence to secure rewarding employment

For Metro Vancouver Youth between the ages of 18-25 who are Indigenous, racialized, or living with a disability

Red Fox Society empowers and equips youth to realize their potential as active, healthy leaders and role models. The Youth Internship Program is an employment training initiative that builds knowledge, skills and confidence to serve youth in education, in employment, and in life.

The Youth Internship program provides youth facing barriers the opportunity to work as part of a team to deliver a wide range of programs. Red Fox Society runs free child and family recreation, arts and cultural programs, and trains participants to gain work experience by job-shadowing these programs. As part of this employment training program, young adults participate in physical literacy sessions, recreation outings, sessions on digital and financial literacy, and they connect with Indigenous Elders.

The Youth Internship program consists of two parts: the first is Employment Training with Red Fox Society, where Youth Interns participate in sessions to gain skills and knowledge to work in recreation and childcare. The Youth Interns also participate in activities that build their communication skills to better prepare them for their internships and future workplaces. The second part of this program is the Quality Employment Experience, where the Youth work as an intern with one of Red Fox Society’s community partners. Host organizations include Strathcona Community Centre, HUB Cycling and Collingwood Neighbourhood House.

“I’ve learned leadership and computer skills and discovered how cool it is to work with children. I’m really enjoying myself and looking forward to learning more.” – William, Intern

“I spent my whole summer as a program facilitator and wouldn’t change that for anything. I was surrounded by friends and new experiences. I learned so much about leadership, responsibility and communication throughout the program.”- Dylann, Intern
