Elder
Over the course of her 30-year career with the Vancouver School District, she has become a guiding presence, advocating for Indigenous students and fostering cultural awareness within the education system. Donna’s journey has not been without its challenges, having grown up as the child of residential school survivors. The scars of the past shaped her path, but she has consistently demonstrated an unwavering spirit of perseverance.
Throughout her life, Donna has relied on the wisdom of mentors, the strength of her family, and her own determination to overcome adversity. Donna has navigated life’s hardships while staying connected to her cultural roots. Donna finds peace and joy in traditional practices, particularly in hand drumming and cedar weaving—art forms that have been passed down through generations in her community. She is also an avid camper, cherishing time spent in nature with her family, and relishes the company of her grandchildren, who are a constant source of inspiration and joy.
Donna’s work, passions, and commitment to her culture have made her a force of strength, helping to bridge generations and empower future leaders in her community.
