Ruky Abdulai

Ruky Abdulai was born in Accra, Ghana located in West Africa. Ruky is a Canadian long jumper and heptathlete. She won the bronze medal for the long jump at the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia.
Abdulai fulfilled a life-long dream coming to Canada to attend Simon Fraser. She made the most of her experience, winning a record 17 individual NAIA national track and field titles, including four consecutive titles in the high jump. She also competed in long jump, triple jump, hurdles & relays. Shortly after becoming a Canadian citizen, Abdulai set the Canadian long jump record of 6.72 metres at the Azusa Pacific Invitational in California while still a student at SFU. Abdulai, who resides in Coquitlam, competed for Canada in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Abdulai also qualified for the 2012 Olympics in London but unfortunately injured her knee two weeks before the games.
As a former Olympian and Elite athlete, Ruky has spent the last few years giving back to our community and more specifically to the youth, through a process of coaching and mentoring which has allowed them to understand what it takes to become the best they can be at what they want to with their lives.
